Four Catholic cardinals, Carlo Caffarra, archbishop emeritus of Bologna; Raymond Burke, patron of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta; Walter Brandmüller, president emeritus of the Pontifical Committee for Historical Sciences; and Joachim Meisner, archbishop emeritus of Cologne have gone on record to ask if Pope Francis is liberalizing the church.

The cardinals sent five questions, called dubia (Latin for “doubts”), to the Holy Father and Cardinal Gerhard Müller, prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

The bone of contention is Pope Francis’s implying that Catholic Priests can give communion to men who remarry after a divorce. Their letter demands a ‘Yes or No’ answer from the Pope but Pope Francis has refused to respond.

The cardinals have now publicly published their letter and are threatening ‘an act of correction’ against the Pope, an action which has rarely ever occurred in the history of the Church.
