Julia Michaels is getting deep on her upcoming EP.
Michaels is one of pop music’s not-so-secret weapons. She has crafted songs for some of the industry’s brightest stars (Justin Bieber’s “Sorry,” Britney Spears’ “Slumber Party,” Selena Gomez’s “Hands To Myself,” Ed Sheeran’s “Dive,” Fifth Harmony’s “All In My Head,” Kelly Clarkson’s “War Paint”), but she’s ready to stand alone. The 23-year-old released her debut single titled “Issues” earlier this year, and it continues to trickle up the charts; the track peaks at No. 24 on the Hot 100 this week. Kudos!
Now, Michaels is focusing her attention on releasing an EP, which she labels a nice transition. As it stands, the EP will be titled Nervous System (“because I am a f–king nervous system”) and is slated for a May release. In a new interview with 92.3 AMP Radio, the budding pop star spills the tea. She opens up about a personal song titled “Deeply” that centers around her boyfriend.
“Have you ever had one of those times where you don’t really feel like yourself, and you don’t really know why?,” she asks. “He was going through that for a while, and I started to take it personally. I thought it was my fault, but then after a while you realize that it’s not you, it’s just something that people go through and they have to learn how to get themselves out of it on their own.” Michaels adds the song is about assuring him she’s going to stand by his side until he figures everything out.
